Why This Works
You didn't start out smoking as much as you presently do; you worked up to it. Now you need to go back the other way. Don't think for one second that dropping just one cigarette in this way doesn't affect you. If it worked the other way — it works both ways! This approach is very subtle (just as nicotine is), thus allowing your body to adjust naturally. You know all too well that the withdrawals from nicotine are terrible, and removing the addiction too abruptly can actually alter your personality. Nothing can immediately replace what you need and are accustomed to. You must be able to comfortably evolve past needing to smoke (both mentally and physically) on your own terms. Just as the child naturally evolved past needing that particular toy — it should never be forced upon you.
Nature's Way
Please don't make the mistake of thinking that this technique takes too long. How many years have you been smoking? What's a few weeks, to finally be in control of your life? We may be living in the age of electronics and lightning speed, but no one has told that to your body! You must allow your body to evolve past needing to smoke. It must be in agreement with your desire to no longer want to smoke. This is the natural way. Nature has surrounded us with all the answers we need — if we simply observe!
You might play tennis for two hours and your heart rate might be at 120 while exercising. But when you finish playing, your heart rate returns to normal — but not instantly! It takes a bit of time. That's both normal and natural.
Consider a sunrise. In about 25 minutes, the sky turns from deep blue to brilliant orange. When the sun sets, the opposite occurs. Both are more than just beautiful: they are perfect examples of how the universe works. Since nature has provided us with countless examples — why not learn from the master?
Actually, it really is fantastic that you can undo years of smoking in just a matter of weeks. To expect to stop smoking overnight is being very unfair to yourself. It's unnatural. You weren't born knowing how to ride a bicycle, yet you had all the skills — and with just a little help, you did fine. So too, you have all the ability to stop smoking, you just needed to be shown how to use it.
Quiet Confidence
Unless someone in your life is a positive influence, you would be wise to simply proceed in private. While a positive, supportive friend or relative can be an enormous asset, all to often we can find ourselves in the company of negative or pessimistic people. People who always seem to have some excuse for not succeeding. They may very well be kind, decent people, but for some unconscious reasons they prefer to stay down — and they love company. All you need to do is quietly go about your business, steadily improving day by day, and you will succeed. Should have have a truly supportive person in your life, and you wish to share your goal with them, then by all means, please do so. If not, just do it.
If It Works, Don't Fix It
It is very important to your success that you do not alter this formula in any way. The research has already been done for you! You know that you can do this. You know that you need to do this. So be calm, be confident, and be well.
