Other Techniques
Some people have tried nicotine gum or maybe the patch system. In theory, they both sound pretty good. But the fact is, they both have two major failings. The first is that they both deliver nicotine to your system and, unfortunately, it has been scientifically proven that nicotine alone causes damage to your arteries.* So while your lungs may benefit from the removal of smoke — what about your heart?
The second failing is that they both abruptly interrupt your comfortable daily routine by immediately removing the actual act of smoking. This is very significant! It is well established that the entire ritual of smoking — the use of your hands, the how and when you choose to smoke — all combine and greatly contribute to your total addiction. Planned change can be positive. Abrupt change is usually confusing or even frightening.
What About Hypnosis?
Just how natural is hypnosis? One might say that the mind controls the body, therefore, if you can convince the brain that you have no desire to smoke, you will not. That seems reasonable. However, everyone knows that the body seems to "have a mind of its own," as the saying goes. To succeed, your body as well as your mind, must be willing and ready to stop smoking.
You probably know how foggy or confused a physical problem can cause your mind to be. (Ever try taking a math test while you were constipated? Not good.) Remember: your mind and body must be in agreement — naturally. When hypnotized, have both your mind and body chosen to stop smoking? Are your mind and body in agreement, or has someone "suggested" something to only "one half" of you? Think about it.
What About "The Pill"?
Here again, you are drastically changing a very comfortable routine: a routine to which you have grown quite accustomed. You are abruptly removing the physical act of smoking but that's nothing compared with the list of precautions and possible side effects one must consider. It's a lot of reading — and with good reason.
No, all these approaches are still just crutches! (And expensive!) What about "cold turkey"? Get real. If you could have, you would have. Sure, some people have gone this route, and some people have won the Irish Sweepstakes too!
